Egypt recently announced an increase in fuel prices, effective from November 2021. This decision comes after several postponements, suggesting an adaptation to global trends in the oil market.
Diesel prices thus rose to 10 Egyptian pounds per liter, compared to 8.25 pounds previously. The different octane levels have also undergone a price increase. The price of 80 octane now stands at 11 Egyptian pounds per liter, with an increase of 1 pound. As for 92 and 95 octane, the prices are 12.50 and 13.50 Egyptian pounds per liter respectively.
Households using butane bottles for cooking are not spared, with a 12.5 kg version now reaching 100 Egyptian pounds.
This price revision is part of a desire to align with global market fluctuations. A measure that raises questions about its impact on the Egyptian population and the country’s economy.
