In a move aimed at modernizing the remuneration system for judicial office holders, the Senate received a letter from the President addressed to Godswill Akpiabio, during Wednesday’s plenary session.
This bill entitled “Transmission of the draft law on salaries and allowances of judicial office holders, 2024” aims to put an end to the prolonged stagnation of the remuneration of judicial officers and to align them with current socio-economic realities , in accordance with section 58, paragraph 2 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
The submitted document provides for the establishment of a legal framework for the remuneration of magistrates, thus contributing to the significant improvement of their well-being, their capacities and the independence of the judiciary.
In this context, the Senate positions itself as a key player in promoting fairness and performance within the judicial system, by ensuring that judicial officers are fairly remunerated for their functions essential to democracy and Right wing state.
This bill is part of a determined approach to modernizing and strengthening the judicial system, highlighting the crucial importance of guaranteeing fair and equitable working conditions for judicial office holders.
