**Reopening of the Kamba Border for International Trade in Nigeria**

The recent reopening of the Kamba border for international trade, led by the new Customs Area Comptroller, Iheanacho Ernest-Ojike, marks a significant turning point in the cross-border trade sector. This initiative follows the directive of the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale-Adeniyi, and aims to promote legitimate trade to contribute positively to nation-building.

Ernest-Ojike emphasizes that this reopening in no way authorizes the importation of prohibited items that could harm the economy and compromise national security. Customs authorities are committed to facilitating legitimate trade, stipulating that all imports must comply with existing customs laws, with proper declaration and payment of appropriate duties to the Federal Treasury.

It is important to note that the export of cereals remains prohibited to alleviate the current food shortage. The Kamba regional head, Alhaji Mamuda Fana, hailed the government initiative as new hope for cross-border traders and local small businesses.

This reopening of the Kamba border opens new opportunities for international trade, promoting legitimate and sustainable trade that will benefit the national economy. Customs authorities remain committed to ensuring compliance with applicable regulations and supporting cross-border trade actors in complying with national and international laws.
