Article: The fight against drug trafficking in Africa: the efforts of the NDLEA

The fight against drug trafficking in Africa remains a major challenge, and the authorities are redoubling their efforts to combat this scourge. Recently, the NDLEA (National Drug and Drug Enforcement Agency) has made significant arrests in different parts of Nigeria.

In Adamawa State, two wanted suspects, Ajim Samuel (aka Boss) and Davidson Joshua (aka Dantala), were apprehended while attempting to smuggle in a large quantity of tramadol. This opioid medication, consisting of 14,428 tablets, was hidden in the compartments of a black Honda Civic car. NDLEA operatives also seized 21 grams of cannabis and a sum of N19,280 in cash.

In Osun State, a commercial bus driver, Ogunleye Adegoke, was arrested after 2,000 tramadol capsules, along with 60 Rohypnol tablets and 10 bottles of codeine syrup were found hidden in the spare tire from his vehicle, along the Gbongan-Ibadan road.

Meanwhile, in Azare, Bauchi State, an individual named Lawan Abubakar was intercepted in possession of 343,000 opioid tablets. These seizures illustrate the determination of the authorities to fight against the trafficking of illicit substances and to protect the population against the harm of drugs.

The NDLEA continues to work to dismantle trafficking networks and prevent the spread of potentially dangerous drugs. These recent operations highlight concerted efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens, while combating a scourge that threatens society.
