“North Kivu: Land legitimacy canceled, a turning point in regional governance”

Land legitimacy canceled: North Kivu reacts

In a recent turnaround, the governor of North Kivu, Major General Peter Chirimwami, announced the cancellation of two provincial decrees concerning the allocation and allocation of plots of land in Goma and in the Kamuronza grouping. This decision follows correspondence issued in response to a request for explanations on the spoliation of the Gabiro, SEP Congo and ITIG cemeteries in Goma.

The governor stressed that the orders signed by his predecessors, Carly Zanzu and Ndima Kongba Constant, were in violation of regulations on the decommissioning of cemeteries. In fact, the legal deadline was not respected and the competent authority did not have the legitimacy required to take such decisions.

These decrees adopted in April and November 2021 concerned the allocation and allocation of land in Goma and Kamuronza, as well as the decommissioning of a portion of land in the former ITIG cemetery. This case highlights the importance of legality in land procedures and highlights the need to follow the law in such situations.

This recent decision by Governor Chirimwami marks a turning point in land management in the region and underlines the authorities’ commitment to preserving the integrity of territories and public property. A case to follow closely as North Kivu continues to fight for transparent governance that respects the laws in force.
