“Humanitarian emergency in the DRC: The WFP launches an appeal for solidarity to help vulnerable populations”

The World Food Program (WFP) is sounding the alarm on the critical situation prevailing along the road between Goma and Saké, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Persistent violence hampers humanitarian operations and leaves a desolate humanitarian void, forcing millions of people to live in conditions of extreme precariousness.

In a poignant tweet, the WFP underlines that the worsening violence has led to the displacement of 128,000 people, forced to find refuge in sites near Goma and Minova. This dramatic situation requires an urgent response to help these vulnerable populations.

In order to support populations affected by conflicts and natural disasters in eastern DRC, the World Food Program distributed 432 tonnes of food to more than 25,920 beneficiaries in the regions of Lushebere and Nyamukubi, located in the territory of Kalehe, in South Kivu. This vital food aid is essential to ensure the survival and well-being of people affected by the crises in the DRC.

Faced with this humanitarian emergency, the WFP calls for an immediate ceasefire and the protection of civilian populations in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is imperative to end the violence and ensure safe and unhindered access to humanitarian operations to meet the essential needs of affected populations.

In these difficult times, international solidarity and humanitarian action are more necessary than ever to help the most vulnerable people and offer them hope for a better tomorrow. The WFP continues to mobilize to provide support and solidarity to populations in distress, providing concrete and essential aid to meet the most urgent needs.
