The corridors of the Kwilu provincial assembly resonated with particular excitement on Monday, February 19. Indeed, 31 new provincial deputies were gathered for the validation of their mandates, ready to begin their mandate in the hemicycle in Bandundu.
Among the 35 newly appointed elected officials, thirty-one took part in this crucial plenary session. The validation of the mandates was carried out after examination and adoption of the reports of the ad hoc commissions, thus guaranteeing provincial deputies the legitimacy necessary to exercise their functions.
The president of the age office of the Kwilu provincial assembly, Oscar Nsaman, underlined the importance of this step: “We have just validated our powers, which gives us immunities and the power to take decisions. decisions relating to our constitutional missions. Start to act, to challenge if necessary, start to legislate for better performance in the governance of our province.”
He also reminded members of the provincial government of the imperative to choose between the provincial assembly and the government within the eight days allowed, thus complying with the legal provisions in force.
Despite this progress, eight seats remain vacant in the Kwilu provincial assembly, awaiting the next national and provincial elections in the Masimanimba territory. The Independent National Electoral Commission had in fact canceled the elections in this territory following incidents that occurred during the polls on December 20.
This validation of mandates thus opens the way to a new era of governance for the province of Kwilu, marking the beginning of legislative work essential for the development and stability of the region.
