“Towards a new era of transparency and democracy in the National Assembly of the DRC: establishment of a special commission to develop the internal regulations”

The plenary session of Monday, February 19 at the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo was marked by a major decision: the establishment of a special commission responsible for developing the internal regulations of the chamber. This initiative follows the validation of the powers of national deputies, a sign of a democratic and transparent approach.

The President of the National Assembly, Christophe Mboso, took the decision to form a commission composed of 78 members, three deputies per province, chosen from among the most competent and best qualified. This geographic and skill diversity should guarantee balanced representation within the commission.

This commission has five days from Wednesday February 21 to work on a proposal for new internal regulations. The objective is to review and amend the current text in order to make it more adapted to the needs and realities of the National Assembly.

Furthermore, during the session of Monday January 12, the National Assembly asked members of the government affected by incompatibilities of functions to make a choice between their position within the Executive and their seat in the Lower House. This measure aims to guarantee the separation of powers and ensure transparent and effective governance.

This approach demonstrates the desire of the Congolese authorities to establish democratic and responsible practices within the country’s institutions. By respecting procedures and putting in place control and regulation mechanisms, the National Assembly contributes to strengthening the legitimacy of its action and promoting ethical and transparent governance in the service of citizens.
