The Congolese political landscape was recently shaken by the resignation of the Minister of State in charge of Regional Integration, Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi. He made the decision to leave his functions within the Sama government to devote himself fully to his mandate as national deputy.
His resignation letter, written while he was in Addis Ababa for African Union activities, was tabled in the National Assembly. This decision is part of the 8-day period granted to members of the government elected national deputies to choose between remaining in the government or sitting in the National Assembly, a period which expires this Tuesday, February 20, 2024.
Antipas Mbusa Nyamwisi is not the only member of the government to have made this choice, joining other political figures such as Vital Kamerhe and Jean-Pierre Lihau.
This series of resignations marks a turning point in the Congolese political scene and raises many questions about the future implications on the governance of the country. Voters will be paying attention to the actions of newly elected national MPs and how their choices will influence the political landscape to come.
