Do you know the recent news in the Central African Republic? There appears to be a glimmer of hope on the horizon in terms of the humanitarian situation. Indeed, according to Mohamed Ag Ayoya, the deputy special representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in CAR, there has been a notable improvement in this area in 2023, a first in five years.
Although the challenges remain numerous, with almost half of the population still in distress, it is encouraging to see this positive development. Indeed, the number of people in humanitarian need would have decreased, from 56% to around 46% of the population in one year.
This improvement is also visible through the requests for international aid that have been made. In 2023, an amount of $533.3 million was requested, and $300 million was obtained, or 56% of the request. On the other hand, for the year 2024, the request amounts to 367.7 million, the first time in more than 10 years that a humanitarian response plan in the CAR has requested less than 400 million dollars. A development which highlights a certain stabilization and encouraging potential for the future.
That being said, it is crucial to remain vigilant and continue to support the Central African population on their path to a better future. In view of this progress, it is essential to stay informed on the evolution of the humanitarian situation in the CAR and to continue to act in solidarity with those who need it most.
