In road construction, contractor performance is crucial to meeting deadlines and keeping construction costs under control. Governor Umahi recently made an important decision regarding contractors found to be non-performing at the Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway construction site.
During an inspection visit to the Ozuaku section of the expressway after Imo Bridge, the governor announced the termination of contracts of underperforming companies. He stressed that the federal government will no longer accept contractors who use delaying tactics to drive up construction costs.
Indeed, Governor Umahi said: “I have ordered that they be given 14 days’ notice of termination following all construction procedures. After 14 days, if they do not do what we asked them to do, we will be forced to terminate them.”
He added: “We will no longer tolerate the situation where contractors leave construction sites abandoned and increase construction costs by delaying the project delivery date.”
This decision illustrates the importance of effective management of construction sites to guarantee quality, compliance with deadlines and budgets. Contractors must be aware that non-performance will no longer be tolerated and that they must respect the commitments made when signing contracts.
This action demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring the proper execution of road infrastructure projects and to guaranteeing transparency in the execution of construction contracts. It is essential that entrepreneurs take their responsibilities seriously and provide quality work for the well-being of the population and the economic development of the region.
