Nigeria: a future leader in renewable energies

Nigeria is emerging as a promising player in the field of renewable energy, according to the country’s Minister of Petroleum Affairs, Mr. Akpabio. At the Legislative Summit on Renewable Energy organized by the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, Mr. Akpabio highlighted Nigeria’s potential to become a leader and innovator in the renewable energy sector.

Nigeria faces many energy challenges, including insufficient electricity supply, high electricity costs and the negative impact of fossil fuels on the environment. However, Mr Akpabio said these challenges could be overcome through a transition to renewable energy.

He called on stakeholders in the energy sector in Nigeria to take responsibility and shape a future where clean, affordable and accessible energy becomes a reality for all Nigerians. He also highlighted that the country has endless sources of alternative energy which are still untapped.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Tajudeen Abbas, also expressed his support for the transition to renewable energy. He highlighted the benefits that full adoption of these energies could bring, such as improving electricity supply, boosting economic activity in rural areas, creating jobs and reducing energy costs. electricity and carbon emissions.

The Director General of the NILDS Institute, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman, highlighted the importance of the Legislative Summit on Renewable Energy following the adoption of laws enabling the transition to these energies. He noted that this transition is now more achievable, both at the national and state levels.

However, he also pointed out that some issues require national regulation, such as the safety of state-controlled power plants and the sale of renewable electricity to other countries. He therefore called for the development of national laws to regulate these activities.
