Nigeria’s First Lady, Madam Tinubu, recently took part in the inauguration of the MAAUN University School of Law building. This event was marked by a special twist, since the building was named in his honor by the university management.
During the ceremony, Mrs. Tinubu was delighted with the facilities provided and expressed her gratitude to the founder of the university, Professor Adamu Gwarzo. She also lauded Gwarzo’s contribution to the improvement of the education system in Nigeria and beyond.
“I am delighted to be honored on this occasion and I do not take it for granted. I will continue to support young people because education is the key to freedom,” she said.
Madam Tinubu also spoke about her personal experience when she completed her one-year compulsory national service in Kano State, where she resided in the famous Sabon Gari area of the ancient city.
As for Professor Gwarzo, he stressed that the vision of MAAUN University is to be a world-renowned university in teaching, research and service to humanity. Its mission is to “develop well-educated and talented industry leaders and captains by providing quality education and skills that are affordable and acceptable to all.”
MAAUN University began its activities in Maradi, Niger, before establishing itself in Nigeria. Professor Gwarzo reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to providing quality education and high moral standards to its students.
After inaugurating the building, the first lady visited the university’s Murtala Ramat Mohammed School of Law and Library. She was accompanied at the event by other personalities, including former First Lady Maryam Abacha, Minister of State for the Federal Capital, Dr. Mariya Bunkure, former Minister of Women’s Affairs, Pauline Tallen, as well as as the wife of the Secretary to the Federal Government, George Akume. Wives of governors from 17 states also attended the ceremony.
In conclusion, this event illustrates the importance given to education in Nigeria, and the efforts made to promote academic excellence in the country. The first lady showed her commitment to young people and stressed that education is essential to enable individuals to reach their full potential and access freedom and personal fulfillment.
