The international NGO Action Against Hunger has just set up training on food security in the Punia health zone, located in the province of Maniema. This training brought together more than 50 people, from 13 health areas out of the 17 in the area.

The objective of this initiative is to fight against malnutrition which is prevalent in the region. To achieve this objective, participants were trained in the IYCF (Infant and Young Child Nutrition) approach. Particular emphasis was placed on exclusive breastfeeding for infants aged zero to 6 months, as well as diversified complementary feeding for older children.

Dr. Musa Bikulobyanse, provincial coordinator of the National Nutrition Program (PRONANUT), highlights the importance of this training to raise community awareness about nutrition and to strengthen actions carried out in the health of children from zero to 59 months. It also highlights the crucial role of participating associations as partners of the Ministry of Health.

This initiative constitutes an important step in the fight against child malnutrition in the Punia health zone. By training and raising awareness among local actors, the NGO Action Against Hunger contributes to strengthening the community’s capacity to take charge of the food security and nutrition of its members.

It is essential to emphasize the determining role of nutrition in the harmonious development of children. Adequate nutrition from the first months of life is essential to ensure optimal growth and development. Thanks to this training, the community of the Punia health zone will have the necessary knowledge to implement healthy and diversified dietary practices, thus helping to reduce the risks of malnutrition.
