The Ministry of Environment recently participated in a cycling marathon titled “Clean and Green Cairo with Cycling”, organized by the Cairo Governorate, Sanofi Egypt, specializing in the field of pharmacy, and the Transport Policy Institute and development. The event brought together Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, a high-level delegation as well as members of the “Go Bike” initiative and other youth initiatives.
The Minister of the Environment, Yasmin Fouad, welcomed this initiative which contributes to preserving the environment and combating the effects of climate change by encouraging the use of bicycles as an alternative to cars and other polluting means of transport on short distances.
The Ministry of the Environment is working to encourage the use of bicycles as an alternative to traditional means of transport which consume fuel, she emphasizes. To this end, several cycle paths have been developed to promote their use as a tool to combat air pollution and climate change by reducing the use of cars and rationalizing energy consumption.
This initiative is part of a growing global trend in favor of cycling as a sustainable means of transport. Indeed, more and more people are turning to bicycles for their daily trips, whether to go to work, to school or to do their shopping. The benefits of cycling are numerous, both for the individual and for the planet.
By choosing cycling as a means of transport, not only are you helping to improve your health by engaging in regular physical activity, but you are also helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and air pollution. Indeed, unlike cars, bicycles do not produce CO2 and do not emit harmful particles into the air.
In addition, there are many economic benefits to using a bicycle. Indeed, the costs associated with the maintenance and fuel of cars can represent a significant part of the family budget, while cycling requires little initial investment and carries lower maintenance costs.
In conclusion, using the bicycle as a means of transport for short trips is a winning solution for both the individual and the environment. It helps reduce air pollution, preserve health and save money. It is therefore encouraging to see initiatives like the “Clean and Green Cairo with Cycling” cycling marathon supported by the government and many other young initiatives across the country. This demonstrates Egypt’s commitment to a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future.
