Today’s news highlights the Minister of Public Health, Hygiene and Prevention, Dr Samuel-Roger Kamba, who recently presented the new manager of the Global Fund country portfolio during a meeting held in his office.
The Global Fund is one of the main donors in public health, with an envelope of 700 million dollars every three years. This organization plays a crucial role in financing and implementing health projects in many countries, and the Democratic Republic of Congo is no exception. The presence of this new manager offers the country new opportunities to improve its health system and extend the life expectancy of its population.
During the meeting, several issues relating to the implementation of the new grant from the ministry were discussed. Although the grant should have started on January 1, delays were encountered, requiring careful analysis and acceleration of actions to complete the planned projects.
The Minister also highlighted an alarming situation linked to the negligent care of a nurse, who tragically lost her life. Faced with this reality, he expressed the need to address major challenges in the Congolese health system. He also recalled the importance of respecting universal health coverage to ensure good patient care. Free childbirth, the fight against malaria, tuberculosis and HIV are essential aspects of this universal health coverage, which aims to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
This meeting therefore marks an important turning point in the implementation of health policies in the DRC, with the arrival of new financial resources and the appointment of a manager dedicated to the Global Fund country portfolio. It now remains to realize these ambitions to improve the health and well-being of the Congolese population.
