“Conflict in the DRC: The fighting between the FARDC and the M23/RDF rages, the population in distress”

Armed clashes continue to rage in the Nyiragongo region, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC) and the rebels of the March 23 Movement/Rally of Democratic Forces (M23/RDF) are engaged in fierce fighting on the Kibumba axis, in the Buhumba grouping.

According to local sources, M23 rebels launched an attack against FARDC positions near the Ruhunda market, on the main road, about twenty kilometers north of Goma. Witnesses on site report intense clashes and a very unstable situation.

In the territory of Masisi, the inhabitants of Sake express a certain relief in the face of an apparent calm. However, the situation remains precarious and the population remains on guard.

Local authorities report a fierce fight between the two camps, stressing that government forces managed to push the rebels back towards the village of Busankara, around ten kilometers from Sake, thanks to aerial bombardments. This counter-offensive made it possible to stop the advance of the M23 towards Sake.

Unfortunately, civilians pay a heavy price in this fighting. There are already 8 dead and 23 injured among the civilian population, hit by bullets and bombs. The humanitarian situation is becoming increasingly worrying, with a growing number of displaced people and growing insecurity.

This continued violence in the Nyiragongo region is a reminder of the need for international intervention aimed at bringing peace and protecting civilians. The local population has suffered for too long from armed clashes and the disastrous consequences that result from them.

It is essential that the international community supports the Congolese government’s efforts to pacify the region and put an end to these recurring conflicts. A political and inclusive solution must be found to resolve disputes and guarantee the security and well-being of the local population.

In conclusion, the fighting between the FARDC and the M23/RDF in Nyiragongo territory continues to cause human losses and destabilize the region. There is an urgent need to act to put an end to this violence and to allow residents to live in peace and security. The international community has a crucial role to play in resolving this conflict and protecting human rights in the region.
