Together for the Republic: Directions for the future of the DRC in the face of the election results

Together for the Republic defines its orientations in the face of the new political context

Lubumbashi, on Monday morning, Moïse Katumbi brought together the members of his party, Ensemble pour la République, to discuss the main directions to take in the face of the new political context that emerged following the elections. In his opening speech, he encouraged his colleagues not to be discouraged by the disappointing results in almost all sectors of national life. He recalled that the elections were a missed opportunity, thus sounding a note of optimism by affirming that the battle for the development of the DRC continued.

Moïse Katumbi, former presidential candidate in December 2023, also asked participants to pay tribute to the “martyrs of democracy”, thinking in particular of Chérubin Okende, assassinated in July 2023, and of Me Dido Kakisingi, killed in Kindu during The electoral campaign. He expressed solidarity with “combatants and political prisoners” who are deprived of their freedom, citing among others Salomon Kalonda Della, Mike Mukebayi and Stany Bujakera.

However, the question currently attracting attention is whether the Ensemble pour la République party, which contested the election results, will sit in Parliament or not. Furthermore, the question of the opposition spokesperson could also be addressed during this meeting.

It should be remembered that the results of the presidential elections of December 20, 2023 in the DRC were contested by certain candidates and opponents, who denounced electoral fraud and called for demonstrations. Félix Tshisekedi was declared the winner with 73.34% of the votes according to provisional results published by the CENI, followed by Moïse Katumbi with 18.08% of the votes and Martin Fayulu with 5.33% of the votes. The CENI published the results by polling station on its website to guarantee the transparency and integrity of the vote, while the participation rate rose to 43.1%.

In this new political context, Ensemble pour la République seeks to define its orientations and remain committed to the development of the DRC. With the desire to put forward their protests and find solutions for a better future, Moïse Katumbi’s party continues to position itself as a major political force in the country.
