The frequent promotions of Customs officials in Nigeria demonstrate the constant efforts made by the organization to ensure and maintain a high level of performance. At a recent decoration ceremony in Katsina, Mohammed Umar, head of the Command, proudly announced the promotion of 30 customs officers. Despite the challenges posed by armed gang criminality and the closure of borders with the Republic of Niger, the Command recorded impressive performances.
Customs managed to generate a revenue of N1.144 billion during the period, which was a slight decline from the revenue target set at N1.304 billion. However, this figure is equivalent to 87.8% of the initial objective, which demonstrates the professionalism and efficiency of the Command.
Despite the border closure, the Command managed to intercept 369 contrabands, including second-hand vehicles, tires, second-hand clothes, vegetable oil and foreign parboiled rice. This achievement is the result of close cooperation with other security agencies in gathering intelligence and improving operations inside and outside the border corridors.
Nigeria Customs also maintains cordial relations with the state government, traditional institutions and religious leaders. Additionally, it works closely with border communities and other actors in the commercial supply chain to facilitate trade without compromising economic and national security.
During the ceremony, the promoted officers were urged to dedicate themselves even more to their work and fulfill the constitutional mandate of Customs, namely generating revenue, facilitating legitimate trade and combating smuggling.
This achievement is undoubtedly the result of the support of the Comptroller General of Customs, Mr. Wale Adeniyi, his management team, officers and agents of the Command, as well as other service units. Their dedication and hard work achieved these impressive results and preserved the integrity of Nigeria’s borders.
In conclusion, despite the challenges, Nigeria Customs continues to demonstrate professionalism and efficiency in carrying out its mission. Through regular promotions and close cooperation with other agencies, it contributes to the country’s economic and national security while facilitating legitimate trade.
