The incessant attacks that continue on the Plateau in Nigeria are a true tragedy. The State Governor recently expressed his belief that these attacks are acts of terrorism.
During an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Governor said: “What I can tell you is that the killings on the Plateau and the recent attacks are pure acts of terrorism.”
The Plateau, in north-central Nigeria, was the scene of violent attacks on Christmas Eve, leaving more than 200 people dead and thousands displaced, in the government areas of Bokkos and Barkin-Ladi.
The Governor also affirmed that those responsible for these terrorist acts are known and called on the authorities to act quickly to put an end to this threat.
“I believe that the sponsors of the terrorists, the financiers of the terrorists and those who supply weapons to the terrorists are known. The security agencies know them or have the capacity to know them. This is why we insist that the security agencies do their job, which is to protect lives and property,” he said.
The Governor also reacted to his victory before the Supreme Court, which overturned a decision of the Court of Appeal that removed him from office. He sees this victory as a sign of hope for Nigeria and an opportunity for positive change.
“It gave me positive energy because it shows that we can change the Nigerian system. I have always been an incurable optimist about the possibility of change in Nigeria,” he added.
“What I saw at the Supreme Court reinforces that hope: If the Supreme Court can make the right decision, then so can the justice system and the administration of justice.”
These terrorist attacks continue to ravage Nigeria and it is crucial that the authorities take effective measures to put an end to them. The population of the Plateau deserves to be protected and to live in peace and security. Let us hope that this situation finds a resolution quickly and that Nigeria can move forward towards a better future.
