“Mangina in North Kivu: life is slowly resuming after the clashes, security remains a major challenge”

Life in Mangina, in the Beni territory in North Kivu, is slowly returning to normal after four days of clashes between the Congolese armed forces (FARDC) and the militia. Muongozi Vutnyatsi, president of Mangina civil society, reports that following the visit of the military administrator, the Sokola 1 operational sector, the military prosecutor’s office and the scientific technical police, a lull is observed in the commune. The shops are starting to partially reopen, as is the market, particularly the foodstuffs section.

However, it is important to emphasize that the start of the school year has not yet taken place. This break in school activities testifies to the impact that the clashes had on the daily lives of the inhabitants of Mangina. Despite this, Muongozi Vutnyatsi is optimistic that the situation will improve and activities will fully resume.

Clashes between the FARDC and the militia left seven civilians dead. Many residents of Mangina had to take refuge elsewhere to escape the violence. Furthermore, following the visit of the military prosecutor’s office, soldiers responsible for the unrest were arrested.

This situation in Mangina is indicative of the security challenges facing the Democratic Republic of Congo. Armed clashes harm not only the daily lives of populations, but also the stability of the country as a whole. It is essential that measures are taken to guarantee the safety of citizens and promote the resumption of normal activities in areas affected by the violence.

It is hoped that the situation in Mangina will stabilize further and residents will be able to return to normal life. Peace and security are essential prerequisites for the development and well-being of any community. The Democratic Republic of Congo, in collaboration with the international community, must continue to work actively to end armed conflicts and guarantee the security of its citizens.
