“France reaffirms its support for regional initiatives for a peaceful solution in the east of the DRC”

In a press release published on January 10, 2023, France reaffirmed its support for regional initiatives in favor of a peaceful solution in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The French government calls on all parties involved in the conflict to favor dialogue to restore peace and security in the region.

The Nairobi process and the Luanda road map are mentioned as important regional initiatives to resolve the crisis in eastern DRC. France encourages all parties to fully engage in these initiatives and to work together to achieve a lasting and peaceful solution.

In a previous statement in June 2023, France expressed concern over Rwanda’s continued military support for the M23 armed group in North Kivu province. She called on Rwanda to end this support, strongly condemning this involvement in the conflict.

The United Nations Security Council, in a resolution dated January 5, also urged armed groups to end all forms of violence and destabilizing activities in the region. He stressed the importance of the Luanda process and asked the M23 to immediately withdraw from the occupied areas.

Since the end of 2023, the M23 has taken up arms again against the Congolese government, committing abuses against civilians, according to reports from UN experts.

France remains committed to the peaceful resolution of this conflict and calls on all parties to engage in constructive dialogue to end hostilities and restore peace in the east of the DRC.

The situation in this region remains worrying, and it is essential that regional initiatives, supported by France and the international community, are fully implemented to achieve a lasting and peaceful solution to this complex conflict.

The stability of the DRC is crucial for the region as a whole, and France will support all efforts aimed at restoring peace and guaranteeing the security of the Congolese populations.
