Devastating attack on Mbusie village: Call to action for the protection of the civilian population

The recent attack on Mbusie village by Mobondo militiamen has plunged the local community into terror and chaos. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, these fighters set fire to schools, houses and churches, causing massive destruction of infrastructure. Losses of human lives are also to be deplored, although the exact number remains uncertain.

It is important to note that these Mobondo militiamen recently suffered a defeat against the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC). Despite this, they managed to launch a new incursion into Kwamouth territory, a border region with neighboring Bagata territory in Kwilu province. Following this attack, the population of Mbusie fled en masse, seeking refuge in the forest or throwing themselves into the Kwango River to escape the attackers.

Bagata National MP-elect Garry Sakata expresses concern over a possible attack on the neighboring village of Menkwo, which has already been targeted in 2022. He calls on military and government authorities to strengthen security arrangements to protect the civilian population.
“Currently, the population of Mbusie is in disarray. Some are in the forest and others in the bush, still others had thrown themselves into the water to try to save themselves. There are still several cases of death. These famous Mobondo announced that they would be the population of Menkwo. This is why we call on our armed forces, the national and provincial governments, to take useful measures to protect the civilian population, both in Menkwo and in the surrounding villages,” declares Garry Sakata.

He also stresses the importance of strengthening security at the Bagata border to prevent militiamen from crossing and sowing terror in the region. Sakata insists on the essential role of the authorities in ensuring the protection of civilians against these acts of violence.

It is crucial that the authorities take urgent measures to ensure the safety of local populations and put an end to these recurring attacks. People need to feel protected and safe in their own community.

In conclusion, the recent attack on Mbusie village by Mobondo militia highlights the need to strengthen security in the Kwamouth region. Military and government authorities must act quickly to protect the civilian population and prevent further violence. The current situation highlights the urgency of putting in place effective security measures to guarantee peace and stability in the region.
