The current situation in Palestine continues to cause serious concern around the world. For three months, Israeli military intervention has caused devastation, destroyed families and entire towns, leaving thousands of people injured and grieving.
Volunteers begin digging to recover the bodies buried under the rubble. More than 22,700 Palestinians have lost their lives in this conflict, including many innocent civilians. The tension is palpable and no one feels safe in the Gaza Strip. There is no respite from the bombings, and death and destruction are everywhere.
A resident of the region testifies: “Everything that happens here is outside the law, outside of all logic. Our minds have difficulty understanding everything that happens to us.” She adds: “Naked women under the rubble, no one can recognize them, who were they? We couldn’t distinguish one from the other. Children killed for no reason, who had done nothing wrong. ”
This bloody conflict began following the October 7 attack by Hamas in southern Israel, in which more than 1,200 people, mainly civilians, were killed and around 250 people taken hostage.
Relatives of the hostages held a symbolic protest on Tel Aviv’s seafront promenade. They placed shoes representing those still held in captivity, to remind people of the urgency of their release. Osnat Sharabi, the sister of Yossi and Eli, kidnapped from their home in Beeri, explains: “A week ago, I had the impression that the public was forgetting the hostages. I felt that the government and the people were no longer doing anything to bring them home. And that deeply affected me. I wanted to do something, start a movement…”
This demonstration, organized 90 days after the kidnapping of the hostages, takes place under a banner with the slogan: “Let’s show the kidnapped people the way back.” Shoes were collected from different communities in southern Israel and people from Tel Aviv also made donations.
The conflict raged in the Gaza Strip, leading to the deaths of many people, including Palestinian journalists. The son of famous Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Dahdouh was killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Faced with this situation, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu affirmed that the war would not end until the objectives of the elimination of Hamas, the return of the hostages and the security of Israel were achieved.
For his part, the head of foreign policy of the European Union reaffirmed during a visit to Beirut that he wanted to relaunch a peace process leading to a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
It is time to realize the idea of a two-state solution, otherwise the cycle of violence will continue from generation to generation. You can’t kill an idea, you can kill people, but you can’t kill an idea. The only way to eliminate a bad idea is to propose a good one, that of making Palestinians and Israelis live together in peace and security, sharing the land.
Israel’s post-war plan for the Gaza Strip has been revealed and does not include a political solution for all of Palestine. The Israeli defense minister stressed that the war would continue until Hamas’s military and government capabilities are eliminated, and the more than 100 hostages still held are released.
In the northern Gaza Strip, operations will focus on raids, tunnel destruction and special operations, with the aim of eroding Hamas’ presence. However, it was not clear whether the population of the northern Gaza Strip, which has largely been displaced to the south, would be allowed to return to their homes.
In the south, fighting will continue as long as necessary. After the war, Israel will continue to control the security of the Gaza Strip, taking necessary measures to eliminate any threats and maintaining inspections of goods entering the territory.
Unidentified Palestinian entities will be responsible for managing the territory, with Israel providing necessary information to guide civilian operations. A multinational force, led by the United States, will be responsible for reconstruction.
This post-war vision highlights Israeli domination and leaves uncertainty about the future of the Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip. However, it is essential to continue seeking peaceful and lasting solutions to end this cycle of violence and allow Palestinians and Israelis to coexist in peace and security.
