Tragedy in the DRC: a collapse of a church wall causes the death of seven people, including six children

Seven people, including six children and a woman, tragically lost their lives on Thursday January 4 in the territory of Rutshuru, in the province of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The accident occurred when a wall of the local church of the 8th CEPAC Sayuni in Kisharo collapsed.

According to information on site, the wall that collapsed was that of an old church building being demolished. The victims were on the rubble looking for firewood when they were trapped. Seven people lost their lives instantly and two others were injured, including a woman with a broken leg and a child. They were transported to Saint Jean hospital in Nyamilima to receive treatment.

The bodies of the victims were recovered from the rubble after the accident. A tragedy which once again highlighted the dangers linked to dilapidated infrastructure and the absence of adequate security measures.
