Train travel during the Christmas holidays has become a very popular option for many Nigerian travelers. To facilitate the mobility of these travelers, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced an extension of free train rides until Sunday.
This decision, taken in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Transport, aims to relieve travelers who traveled during the holiday period. Fidet Okhiria, Director General of the NRC, urged passengers to continue booking their tickets online to avoid crowds at different terminals.
He also encouraged passengers to make sure they obtain their tickets from the appropriate organizations, free of charge, in order to be able to access the trains without difficulty.
This extension of free train journeys during the Christmas holidays was welcomed by Okhiria, who stressed that this measure will relieve travelers by reducing transport costs.
Recall that the NRC had initially announced the launch of free train rides on December 21, 2023, following the directive of President Bola Tinubu. This free service was initially scheduled to end on Thursday, before this extension until Sunday.
The Chairman of the Committee on the Implementation of the Federal Government’s End of Year Grant Scheme, Dr Dele Alake, recently took stock of the initiative in the first ten days. He stressed that this measure had been very appreciated by travelers, thus helping to facilitate their travel during the holidays.
This initiative by the NRC and the Federal Government shows their commitment to making it easier for Nigerians to travel, by providing affordable and convenient transport options during peak periods, such as the Christmas holidays.
If you are planning to travel during the Christmas holidays, remember to book your train tickets online and make sure you get them for free from official sources. Take advantage of this opportunity to travel comfortably and save on your transportation costs. Trains remain an ideal choice for a pleasant and convenient travel experience.
