Siwa Oasis, a popular tourist destination for the year 2023
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has revealed its list of the best tourist villages for the year 2023, and the Siwa Oasis in Egypt is among the best villages to visit in the new year.
According to UNWTO, the Siwa Oasis is an increasingly popular destination in Egypt, a location favored by the world’s elite throughout history. It offers therapeutic salt lakes, historical monuments such as Shali Castle and numerous mummies in the Mountain of the Dead.
UNWTO has shared its classification of the best tourist cities for the year 2023, based on several criteria: the preservation of rural areas, the preservation of natural landscapes, cultural diversity, local values and culinary traditions.
UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili explained that this initiative recognizes villages that have used tourism as an incentive for their development and well-being.
The list of tourist villages she chose includes: Pengliburan Village, on the island of Bali in Indonesia, Al-Sila Village, in Jordan, Biei, in Japan, Caleta Tortil, in Chile, Chacas, in Peru, Kendovan, in Iran, Lerici, in Italy, and Mantegas, in Portugal. Murkut, Switzerland, Saty, Kazakhstan, Slunj, Croatia, St. Anton am Arlberg, Austria, Tokaj, Hungary, and Zagana, China.
These villages were selected for their ability to preserve rural areas, preserve natural landscapes, maintain cultural diversity, promote local values and promote culinary traditions.
