“Kwamouth under the influence of the Mobondo militia: a critical situation requiring urgent intervention”

The tragedy continues on the RN17 in Kwamouth, where the Mobondo militia has resumed its violence. The villages of Masiambio, Bebes, Bunsele, and others were deserted by the inhabitants, frightened by the advance of the militia. The soldiers, sent to counter the Mobondo, faced deadly attacks, and on their return, panic gripped the population.

Faced with this critical situation, women, children and travelers stranded in Bebes regrouped on the RN17, trying to reach Kinshasa, the capital located more than 20 km away. Kwamouth elected officials have launched an appeal for help to evacuate the population before the situation becomes even more dramatic.

Since the last week of 2023, tension has reigned in this part of Maï ndombe. Clashes increased between different villages, and the presence of the Mobondo militia sowed terror among the inhabitants.

There is an urgent need to find a solution to end this violence and protect innocent civilians. Authorities must act quickly to ensure the safety of residents of Kwamouth and surrounding areas.

It is also essential to support the efforts of those working to resolve this conflict. Kwamouth elected officials deserve our support in their call for the evacuation of the population and the intervention of security forces to restore peace.

Coordinated and rapid action is needed to end this violence and bring stability to the region. The people of Kwamouth and surrounding villages deserve to live in safety, without fearing for their lives and those of their loved ones.

It is the duty of the international community to provide support to the DRC and to work in collaboration with local authorities to find a peaceful solution to this conflict.

The situation in Kwamouth is a tragic reminder of the importance of peace and security in our societies. Every individual deserves to live in a safe and peaceful environment, where violence and conflicts are resolved peacefully.

Let us hope that rapid and effective action will be taken to protect the people of Kwamouth and bring peace to this troubled region.
