The role of the head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (Ceni) is of capital importance during the elections. He is responsible for organizing and supervising the smooth running of the vote in his electoral district. However, in the province of Maniema, the head of Kibombo, Emery Elongo Kandjadi, is accused by a candidate for provincial deputy, Félix Djanga Diondji, of having organized the vote on December 21, 2023 instead of December 20, in violation of electoral law.
This accusation led to the opening of legal proceedings against Emery Elongo Kandjadi. Félix Djanga Diondji filed a complaint on December 29, and the case is currently in the pre-judicial phase at the secondary prosecutor’s office at the Kibombo peace court. The complainant also denounces the fraudulent maneuvers of certain candidates, who allegedly offered loincloths and sums of money to voters to buy their vote, in violation of electoral law.
In his demand for justice, Félix Djanga Diondji wants the independence of justice to be respected and for the author of these “anti-constitutional” acts to be severely punished. He also calls for the invalidation of all candidates who bought the conscience of voters with valuable goods.
For its part, the CENI did not wish to comment specifically on this matter, contenting itself with recalling the importance of the participation of all voters during elections.
This case highlights the issues related to the organization of elections and the preservation of the integrity of the electoral process. Transparency and respect for the law are essential to guarantee free and fair elections, and to preserve citizens’ confidence in the democratic system.
