Massive fraud and protests: Chaotic elections in the DRC called into question by the opposition

The recent elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) were the scene of numerous controversies and accusations of massive fraud. The camp of presidential candidate Moise Katumbi strongly contested the results and demanded the immediate cancellation of these chaotic elections.

In a message published on social networks, pro-Katumbi candidates, including Franck Diongo, Seth Kikuni, Matata Ponyo and Delly Sesanga, denounced numerous irregularities which would have marred the electoral process. In particular, they claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) had planned massive fraud, depriving millions of Congolese of their right to vote.

Among the irregularities mentioned were the delay in opening polling stations, the distribution of electoral machines pre-configured in favor of the outgoing presidential candidate, the acceptance of votes without visible voter cards and the intimidation of voters by the supporters of the outgoing president. In addition, the Katumbi camp accuses the CENI of having published false minutes falsely giving the outgoing president as the winner in certain areas where he would have obtained no votes.

Faced with these numerous irregularities, the Katumbi camp refuses to accept the results of these elections and demands the resignation of the president of the CENI as well as his collaborators. They also call for the mobilization of the Congolese population to defend their right to vote.

Before making this decision, the opposition candidates claim to have examined the detailed report from their electoral centers as well as citizen observation missions, journalists and civil society. They believe that the publication of results polling station by polling station has no credibility and becomes theatrical.

This contestation of the election results in the DRC raises many questions about the integrity of the electoral process. It is crucial that investigations be carried out to shed light on these allegations of fraud in order to preserve the confidence of the Congolese people in the democratic system.
