The Lekki area of Lagos is infamous for its traffic jams caused in part by the presence of illegal interior doors constantly being closed by residents. Faced with several days of traffic congestion due to the inaccessibility of these traffic routes, the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, authorized the ministry to intervene and clear the area in order to facilitate the movement of vehicles .
In a statement posted on environment and caused “immeasurable difficulties” to road users. He also said Sanwo-Olu had given his approval to the operation, which is being carried out by the monitoring team of the ministry.
“As part of this operation, the following streets have already been cleared: Sir Rufus Foluso Giwa, Theophilus Oji, Osaro Isokpan, Abike Sulaiman, Ben Okagbue MBA, Olubunmi Rotimi, Olanrewaju Ninalowo, Dele Adedeji, Abayomi Sonuga, Siji Soetan and Rasheed Alaba Williams,” he added.
The commissioner stressed that government was committed to rehabilitating the Lekki district in line with the state’s original master plan.
