The Political Landscape in the DRC: Call for the resignation of the president of the CENI and request for the cancellation of the elections
In a recent interview with Actu30.cd, Ferdinand Kambere, deputy permanent secretary of the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), called for the resignation of Denis Kadima, president of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). This request follows the irregularities observed during the organization of general elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on December 20 of that same year.
According to Ferdinand Kambere, given the fact that Denis Kadima himself extended the voting day beyond the scheduled date, he no longer has the right to proclaim the results. He therefore calls for his resignation, which would allow the organization of new elections under fairer conditions.
The PPRD member goes even further by also requesting the annulment of the ballots by the Constitutional Court. He affirms that the numerous irregularities, errors and massive fraud observed require a reaction from the highest judicial body in the country. If the Constitutional Court does not take these requests into account, Ferdinand Kambere mentions the use of article 64, which could be an alternative solution.
Furthermore, Ferdinand Kambere expresses the need for the Congolese to meet and talk about the future of the country, without the presence of Félix Tshisekedi. He believes that the current president has failed to preserve the achievements of the peaceful alternation in power and that it is time to rethink the political future of the DRC.
This position by Ferdinand Kambere highlights the political tensions reigning in the DRC and the doubts surrounding the legitimacy of recent elections. It is therefore crucial for the authorities to take into consideration the concerns expressed by the PPRD in order to maintain confidence and political stability in the country..
