The importance of training in preventing sexual exploitation and harassment in the workplace
Sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment in the workplace are issues that affect many people, particularly women. To combat this gender-based violence, the non-governmental organization Primary Health Care in Rural Areas (Sanru) recently organized training in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund and the Congolese Ministry of Health.
For two days, human resources managers from different Congolese government ministries were trained on prevention and protection against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment. This training aims to raise awareness and equip these professionals so that they can integrate the concepts of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment into their daily personnel management and their recruitment actions.
Statistics show that the majority of victims of this violence are women, while the majority of perpetrators are men. It is therefore essential that human resources are made aware of these issues and that they play a key role in preventing and responding to these problems.
The training covered different prevention strategies, such as analyzing risks and implementing measures to mitigate them. She also underlined the importance of administrative sanctions against the alleged perpetrators and the medical and psycho-social care of the victims.
This training initiative is part of a series of activities undertaken by Sanru to combat sexual exploitation and abuse in the workplace. These activities include raising awareness among communities in Kinshasa, Equateur and Tshuapa, as well as training providers and community relays.
In conclusion, it is essential to train human resources managers on the prevention and protection against sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment in the workplace. This awareness will ensure a secure and respectful working environment, thus contributing to the professional and personal development of all employees.
