Title: The humanitarian crisis in Sake: thousands of displaced households live in precarious conditions

Introduction :

The situation in Sake, in the North Kivu region, has become alarming with the arrival of more than six thousand new households fleeing the clashes raging in the region. These displaced people find themselves in spontaneous sites and live in precarious humanitarian conditions. Civil society in Kamuronza is sounding the alarm and calling for help to meet the needs of this vulnerable population.

Details of the humanitarian crisis:

Around six thousand households fled their villages due to the intensification of fighting around Kilolirwe, and found refuge in the town of Sake. These households come from villages such as Kingi, Katembo, Tonane, Karenga and Kisingati, among others. They are scattered in four spontaneous sites in Sake, including Kizimba, Zaina, Kyabiringa and Mahyutsa. Some were welcomed in collective centers of EP Kamuronza and the Kiluku Institute, while others are hosted by host families.

Living conditions in these spontaneous sites are extremely precarious. The displaced people are destitute and in desperate need of humanitarian assistance. The provincial government distributed food aid including rice, beans, corn flour, vegetable oil and cooking salt, as well as non-food items. However, many essential needs such as drinking water and sanitation facilities remain to be met.

Civil society’s call for help:

Faced with this humanitarian crisis, local civil society has launched an appeal to humanitarian organizations to come to the aid of this vulnerable population. The most urgent needs are the provision of drinking water, the construction of latrines and other sanitation facilities. It is crucial that the international community intervenes to support these displaced people and help bring peace to the region.

Conclusion :

The humanitarian crisis in Sake reveals a worrying situation for thousands of displaced households living in precarious conditions. It is imperative that humanitarian agencies and the international community provide immediate assistance to meet the basic needs of these displaced people and contribute to a lasting resolution of the conflict in the region. Solidarity and commitment to peace and the protection of populations are essential to alleviate the suffering of these people and offer them a more secure future.
