The consequences of the fire at the National Electoral Commission warehouse in Bolobo on November 29 continue to raise serious concerns about the participation of the population in the combined elections scheduled for December 20. Indeed, in a press release, the CENI reported a huge loss of equipment following this fire, which raises questions about the organization’s ability to quickly equip the Bolobo antenna before the scheduled date of the elections.
The administrator of the Bolobo territory, Jonathan Ipoma, expresses his concerns about the speed with which the CENI will be able to provide new equipment to replace those that were destroyed. He considers it essential that the CENI acts quickly to guarantee the right to vote of the population of Bolobo.
The loss of the warehouse was considerable, as recorded in an exhaustive list of property lost in the fire. Among the equipment destroyed, there were 163 electronic voting devices, 136 voting booths, 39 RC kits, 108 external batteries and 165 internal batteries of electronic voting devices, as well as numerous other materials essential to the smooth running of the elections.
While investigations continue to determine the causes of the fire, two police officers on duty have been detained. However, concerns persist over the impact of this loss on the electoral process in Bolobo.
In this delicate situation, it is essential that the CENI be diligent in providing new materials in order to preserve the confidence of the population and ensure fair and transparent elections. The participation of all citizens in these elections is crucial to guarantee representative and legitimate results.
Staying tuned to further developments regarding this situation is essential, as this will provide a better understanding of the impact of this incident on the electoral process in the Bolobo region. The local population is eagerly awaiting prompt action from the CENI to ensure the elections are held on schedule.
