“11 million people in the DRC now have access to drinking water: a historic step forward for the country!”

Figures recently revealed by the Water Distribution Authority (Regideso) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) highlight significant progress in access to drinking water in the country. According to the Director General of Regideso, David Tshilumba Mutombo, nearly 11 million people were connected to the water network between 2019 and 2023.

In 2018, only 25.4% of the Congolese population had access to drinking water. This figure has increased significantly to reach 35.5% in 2023. These results are the result of projects undertaken by the Congolese government, such as the construction of water treatment plants and the establishment of distribution projects in different regions of the country.

One of the major projects is the construction of the Ozone plant, which has made it possible to significantly increase the production of drinking water. In addition, projects executed within the framework of the PRISE project and in the Grand Bandundu region have also contributed to improving access to drinking water.

In addition to these achievements, Regideso has also made digital progress by integrating means of online bill payment. This facilitates transactions for subscribers and encourages them to honor their commitments to Regideso.

This progress in access to drinking water is essential to improve the living conditions of the Congolese population. Drinking water is a fundamental need, necessary for health, hygiene and socio-economic development.

However, despite these advances, much remains to be done. A large part of the Congolese population still does not have access to drinking water, and additional efforts must be made to achieve broader and more efficient coverage.

In conclusion, the efforts of the Congolese government and Regideso have made it possible to connect nearly 11 million people to the drinking water network between 2019 and 2023. This is significant progress, but it is important to continue to invest in improving access to drinking water to guarantee the well-being and development of the Congolese population.
