“Violent clashes between the army and the Mobondo militia in the village of Nthso: a worrying security situation in the Kwamouth region”

Recent reports from the Kwamouth region (Mai-Ndombe) report violent clashes between the army and the Mobondo militia. These clashes took place in the village of Nthso and led to the death of several soldiers, while around ten others were injured. The Mobondo militia, responsible for the insecurity in this part of the Mai-Ndombe province for more than a year, ambushed the armed forces.

According to Kwamouth civil society, several militia members were arrested and transferred to Kwamouth. However, the exact toll of losses on the attackers’ side remains unknown. Martin Suta, president of Kwamouth civil society, appealed for a strengthening of security measures in order to definitively pacify the region and allow the population to live in peace.

These clashes once again underline the urgency of the security situation in the DRC. Acts of violence perpetrated by militias have a devastating impact on the population, which is held hostage in a constant cycle of violence and insecurity. It is essential that measures are taken to put an end to this situation and to ensure the safety of citizens.

Beyond the fight against militias, it is also important to strengthen dialogue and cooperation between different stakeholders in order to find lasting solutions to security problems in the region. Collaboration between security forces, civil society and local authorities is essential to restore peace and stability in these areas affected by insecurity.

The events in Kwamouth highlight the need to remain vigilant and regularly inform the population of developments in the security situation. As citizens, we must remain engaged and support efforts to end insecurity and ensure safety for all.
