Moïse Katumbi’s program for the 2024 presidential election in the Democratic Republic of Congo is attracting great interest. Entitled “Alternative 2024 for a united, democratic, prosperous and united Congo”, this ambitious program aims to transform institutions, consolidate the State, promote democracy, maintain peace and fight against corruption.
Presented by Christian Mwando, representative of Ensemble du Grand Katanga, this program addresses the specific problems of Congolese society, such as chaotic governance, democratic deficit, insecurity, weak institutions, aging public administration, corrupt judicial system, unfinished decentralization and pervasive corruption.
To achieve these objectives, Moïse Katumbi plans to mobilize $141 billion over a period of five years. His program foresees sustained economic growth, with real GDP increasing and the investment rate gradually increasing. Emphasis is also placed on promoting domestic production to reduce imports, particularly in the agri-food sector.
These economic projections are considered realistic given the DRC’s many untapped resources and the growth achieved by other African countries. Moïse Katumbi thus wishes to rebuild a strong, reliable and stable state, while restoring the authority and credibility of the country on the international scene.
This program has aroused great interest and numerous debates among the Congolese population. Some welcome the candidate’s ambitions and see him as a potential agent of change for the country. Others express concerns about the feasibility and implementation of these measures.
Regardless, Moïse Katumbi’s program offers a clear and detailed vision of his project for the future of the DRC. It remains to be seen how he will be perceived by Congolese voters during the 2024 presidential election.
