Félix Tshisekedi launches his electoral campaign at the Martyrs stadium in Kinshasa
November 19 will mark the start of the electoral campaign for Félix Tshisekedi, candidate for his own succession to the presidency of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Supported by the Sacred Union of the Nation (USN), a political platform that he created after leaving the FCC of former President Joseph Kabila, Tshisekedi intends to make an impression from the start by going to meet the inhabitants of Kinshasa before traveling the country to win votes.
The outgoing president has already set the tone for his campaign by posting messages that border on propaganda for several weeks. Through SMS messages sent to potential voters, Tshisekedi subtly asks his recipients to grant him a new mandate. His messages are signed “Fatshi”, an affectionate nickname given by his supporters.
In his state of the nation speech to Congress, Félix Tshisekedi called on the Congolese to support his candidacy for a second term at the head of the DRC. He stressed that it was time to choose between starting from scratch or consolidating the achievements of his first mandate, moving hand in hand towards a future where every Congolese would have the opportunity to prosper.
Tshisekedi’s record during his five years as president is considered positive by himself, but criticized by his opponents. His action will be at the center of debates during this electoral campaign, where he will have to convince voters of the relevance of his re-election.
By launching his campaign at the Martyrs stadium in Kinshasa, Félix Tshisekedi demonstrates a desire for proximity with Congolese citizens. He thus wishes to mark a new beginning for the DRC and convince voters to place their trust in him for the next five years.
