Reform of the Diplomatic Academy in the Democratic Republic of Congo: Strengthening the country’s strategic role on the international scene
The President of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Félix Tshisekedi, recently encouraged a reform of the country’s diplomatic academy. This reform follows the recommendations made during the diplomatic conference and aims to strengthen the strategic role that the DRC must play in Africa and in the world.
According to President Tshisekedi, this reform is crucial to strengthen the Congolese diplomatic machine. The objective is to train high-level diplomats capable of representing and defending the interests of the DRC in international issues. To do this, the Diplomatic Academy will have to draw inspiration from the model of the National School of Administration (ENA) and integrate a special so-called “elite” section.
This elite section will be accessible only by competitive examination and will welcome young graduates or professionals aged under 32. They will need to hold a second cycle university degree and specialize in specific branches of international relations, diplomacy, as well as specific geographical areas and political issues.
Admitted candidates will follow a two-year course, including practical internships carried out with diplomatic representations. At the end of their training, they will be assigned to diplomatic posts corresponding to their specialization.
The reform of the Diplomatic Academy also provides for collaboration with current ambassadors, corps chiefs, diplomats and retired civil servants. National and international consultants, particularly in the field of communication, will support the training of Congolese diplomats in order to best prepare them for the defense of the interests of the DRC.
President Tshisekedi has given the mission to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Francophonie, the Civil Service, the Budget and the Office of the President to prepare this reform of the Diplomatic Academy.
This reform constitutes an important step in the DRC’s efforts to strengthen its presence and influence on the international scene. By training high-level diplomats, the country will be able to better defend its interests and actively contribute to global issues.
