Candidacy of Marie Josée IFOKU for the supreme office in the Democratic Republic of Congo

The Congolese political landscape is marked by the announcement of the candidacy of Marie Josée IFOKU for the presidential election. President of the Alliance of Elites for a New Congo (AENC), she is launching for the second time in the race for the highest office in the country.

The submission of his candidacy took place at the Application Reception and Processing Office (BRTC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI). After completing the administrative formalities, Marie Josée IFOKU was taken to the President of the CENI, Denis KADIMA KAZADI, to discuss the electoral process which will lead to the coupled polls scheduled for December 20, 2023.

In her statement to the press, Marie Josée IFOKU presented her political vision based on the ideology of “kombolization”. She defends the idea of cleaning up anti-values and bad practices for a true renaissance of the DRC. She says the Congolese people should not choose a person because of their gender, but rather a vision for the country. She thus positions herself as a candidate bringing change and breaking with the system of predation that has been rampant since the country’s independence.

The notion of rupture was used by many candidates, but Marie Josée IFOKU insists on that of “kombolization” and explains that it refers to the independence of the Congo which was marked by a system of predation, where the people Congolese has become prey for its leaders. Her vision of “kombolization” is based on five points that she will develop later.

During her interview with the President of the CENI, Marie Josée IFOKU expressed her confidence in Denis KADIMA KAZADI, stressing the importance of cleaning up the institution to guarantee fair elections and put an end to legitimacy crises. She even symbolically offered him her support by giving him her ballot.

The candidacy of Marie Josée IFOKU brings a new dynamic to the Congolese political scene with her vision of “kombolization” and her desire to break with the predatory practices of the past. It remains to be seen how his candidacy will be received by voters and what impact his speech will have on the upcoming electoral campaign..
