Vital Kamerhe at the “Reuters NEXT 2023” Global Leaders Forum
Deputy Prime Minister of the Economy, Vital Kamerhe, was invited to participate in the fourth edition of the “Reuters NEXT 2023” Global Leaders Forum which took place at Quorum By Convern in New York. This event, organized by Reuters events, brought together global decision-makers to discuss current issues and future challenges.
During his speech, Vital Kamerhe highlighted the significant progress made by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). He notably discussed the current electoral process, the security situation in the east of the country and the relationship with neighboring countries. He also addressed the issue of the review of Chinese contracts, highlighting the positive impacts already observed thanks to this review.
The minister also highlighted the achievements of the Congolese electoral body, guaranteeing the organization of credible and transparent elections scheduled for next December. He stressed that the electoral process remains inclusive, allowing opponents to present themselves and campaign in accordance with the law.
Regarding the diplomatic situation with neighboring countries, Vital Kamerhe stressed the importance of harmony and cohesion for the development of the region and Africa in general. He also spoke of the gradual withdrawal of MONUSCO, indicating that the Congolese government wishes to end the presence of this UN mission after 25 years, due to its limits and the evolution of issues.
The “Reuters NEXT 2023” Global Leaders Forum brought together government figures, representatives of the United Nations, NGOs, international media and civil society actors. Over two days, participants examined the planet’s major challenges, such as finance and banking, climate and sustainability, technology, geopolitics, economics and markets, and a fairer future.
