Fight against school bullying: a new campaign to raise awareness among adults
School bullying remains a current phenomenon that affects many children. Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne committed to the fight against this scourge by launching a new national campaign last Thursday. This time, the objective is to make adults aware of children’s words, so as not to minimize their experiences. This initiative is a continuation of an interministerial plan to combat school bullying recently unveiled.
As part of this new campaign, the Prime Minister gave students of a Parisian college an anonymous self-assessment grid. This grid allows children to better express their feelings and identify cases of harassment in their establishment. The goal is to further free students’ speech and give them a way to express themselves in complete safety.
This initiative is in addition to other measures put in place to combat school bullying. Since the start of the school year, all students, from CE2 to final year, have been invited to complete an anonymous questionnaire to assess whether they are victims of school bullying. This strategy aims to prevent and detect situations of harassment.
The anti-harassment plan announced by the government also includes empathy lessons in nursery and primary schools, the confiscation of harassers’ mobile phones by a judge and the establishment of dedicated cells in academies.
It is important to emphasize that the fight against school bullying is a major issue, because the consequences can be very serious for the victims. Current statistics date from 2011 and do not take into account the extent of cyberharassment, which has taken a prominent place with the rise of social networks.
The new audiovisual campaign highlights situations which seem harmless but which in reality hide cases of harassment. The goal is to make adults more aware of these signs of distress in children.
In conclusion, the fight against school bullying is a major concern within our society. The initiatives put in place aim to raise awareness among adults and give children the means to express themselves safely. It is essential that everyone mobilizes to put an end to this scourge and guarantee a healthy school environment for all students.
