The article on current events in Kasumbalesa highlights the efforts made by the DGDA (Directorate General of Customs and Excise) to combat customs fraud and smuggling at the border with Zambia. Under the leadership of the President of the Republic, Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo, a new modern customs building was inaugurated, as well as other infrastructure aimed at optimizing state revenue.
This initiative is part of the modernization of border posts in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The 2,600 square meter building houses the customs services and is equipped with all the necessary equipment to facilitate the processing of customs files and speed up the flow of vehicles.
In addition to the customs building, other infrastructure has been put in place, such as a reinforced concrete bypass road, bonded warehouses, parking lots to accommodate trucks and accommodation for customs officers. All this aims to improve the fluidity of cross-border trade and stimulate the development of the region.
This project was carried out thanks to a partnership between the DGDA and the company TRAFIGO SARL, led by Magalie Kayitesa Raway, a Congolese entrepreneur. TRAFIGO SARL has developed a reliable and secure system to maximize customs revenue at the Kasumbalesa post. Thanks to this system, the DGDA’s revenues have increased significantly, thus making it possible to respond to border challenges and promote cross-border trade.
It is important to highlight the role of Magalie Kayitesa Raway as a Congolese entrepreneur and businesswoman. Her commitment to maximizing customs revenue demonstrates the efforts made by Congolese women in the entrepreneurship sector. This success also illustrates the importance of public-private partnership in carrying out large-scale projects.
This initiative in Kasumbalesa is considered a model in the fight against customs fraud and maximization of revenue in the sub-region. It demonstrates that innovative and effective solutions can be put in place to strengthen the capacities of customs administrations and promote economic development.
In conclusion, the new customs building and the infrastructure put in place in Kasumbalesa demonstrate the commitment of President Félix Tshisekedi Tshilombo and the DGDA to the modernization of border posts and the maximization of state revenue. Thanks to partnerships such as that with TRAFIGO SARL, significant progress is being made in the fight against customs fraud and the promotion of Congolese entrepreneurship. This initiative constitutes an example to follow for other customs posts in the region.
