Title: Training in content production for adolescents and young girls: the UPC successfully closes a promising program
Introduction :
Last Monday, October 30, the Protestant University of Congo (UPC) celebrated the closing and presentation of certificates to the participants of the training on the production of content for adolescents and young girls. This initiative, supported by the U.S. Department of State’s Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI), aims to equip participants with the skills needed to effectively deliver leadership training to young girls and women in their respective communities. This article looks back on this significant event and highlights the importance of this training in the empowerment of adolescent girls and young women.
An ambitious program for the empowerment of adolescent girls and young women:
Facilitated by the YALI Alumni Chapter, the main objective of this training is to provide participants with facilitation and content creation skills. Young girls and women aged 13 to 24 were able to learn how to use the resources of the YALI program to host online sessions and reach a wider audience using digital tools. The coordinator of the YALI program in East Africa, Trésor Kalonji, underlines the importance of this program by specifying that the participants will have to be followed for six months in order to be able to provide training adapted to young women in their communities.
Inspiring testimonies:
Interviewed at the end of the training, Stéphanie Mbalayi, one of the beneficiaries, expressed her desire to create tutorials and provide online training to reach as many people as possible in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). She also mentions the creation of a WhatsApp group bringing together young women and young men, in order to promote education and the emancipation of adolescent girls and young women in her country.
Extensive training for a lasting impact:
The training on content production for adolescent girls and young girls organized by the UPC and supported by the YALI program is a concrete example of the importance of women’s empowerment through education and training. By equipping these young girls and women to become facilitators capable of providing quality training, this program helps to strengthen their leadership and their ability to play an active role in their communities. It also raises awareness of issues specific to adolescent girls and young women, thus promoting constructive dialogue within communities.
Conclusion :
The conclusion of the training on content production for adolescents and young girls at the UPC marks an important step in the empowerment journey of these young women. Thanks to the support of the YALI program, they have acquired essential skills to become facilitators and enlightened leaders within their communities. This promising program opens new perspectives for the education of adolescent girls and young women in the DRC and allows them to be heard in crucial discussions on issues that directly concern them.
