News: The FARDC Chief of Staff on mission to Goma to counter the M23
Army General Christian Tshiwewe Songesha, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of Congo (FARDC), arrived in Goma, capital of the North Kivu province, to continue his command mission and control of operations against the M23 rebel group. Accompanied by a delegation of officers, General Tshiwewe Songesha came to assess the ongoing operation carried out by the FARDC and MONUSCO peacekeepers to protect the city of Sake and the town of Goma from potential attacks by the M23.
Despite a relative calm on the front lines, the M23 terrorists attempted to overflow towards Kibati, but were pushed back by the FARDC to their former positions in Buhumba, about twenty kilometers north of Goma. In Masisi territory, west of Goma, the situation remains worrying, with villages falling into the hands of terrorists, such as Nyakabingu, Kabalekasha, Burungu and Rushebesha.
The presence of the FARDC Chief of Staff in Goma demonstrates the continued commitment of the Congolese army to combat the M23 and guarantee the security of civilian populations. General Tshiwewe Songesha plays a key role in coordinating operations and strengthening the capabilities of troops on the ground. His trip to Goma will also strengthen cooperation between the FARDC and MONUSCO in their fight against the rebel group.
The security situation remains tense in the North Kivu region, endangering the lives of civilians and the integrity of Congolese territory. However, the commitment and determination of the FARDC, supported by MONUSCO and the local population, demonstrate the desire to put an end to instability and guarantee peace in the region.
In conclusion, the visit of the FARDC Chief of Staff to Goma underlines the importance of the fight against the M23 and the need for reinforced coordination between Congolese and international forces. The security of civilian populations and the preservation of territorial integrity must remain the absolute priority in order to enable the development and prosperity of the North Kivu region.
