Henri Dikongué and Diklau, in search of universal songs
Cameroonian singer and guitarist Henri Dikongué is back with his sixth album entitled “Derrière ton masque”, but this time, he is joining forces with his wife Diklau to create an artistic project of a new scale.
For the first time, Diklau participated in the creation of the album as co-composer and lyricist, marking a unique artistic collaboration between the couple. Although Diklau has contributed to her husband’s songs in the past, this is the first time she has presented her own personal productions. The songs “Little Brother” and “Pass Time” are the flagship representatives, and without immediately telling Henri, Diklau presented his creations to him, thus realizing that the time had come to formalize their artistic association.
The album “Behind your mask” pays tribute to people who inspired the couple, but the objective was also to give each listener the opportunity to make the songs their own by giving them a universal dimension. This translates into choruses in Spanish or English, as well as the diversity of vocal styles, notably with the participation of rapper José Shungu. Musically, Henri Dikongué decided to put more emphasis on the piano, a deliberate choice to give a particular color to this album and restore the energy of the live concerts to which he is accustomed.
The album “Behind your mask” is a true artisanal experience, where each musician brings their creativity to match the artist’s vision. Henri Dikongué is meticulous and demanding, both with himself and with others, because he wants each song to reflect the soul of each person.
