Title: “The 10th edition of the “Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon” scholarship open to French-speaking African countries”
The “Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon” scholarship recently celebrated its 10th edition in Ivory Coast. This initiative, created in 2014 by France Médias Monde, aims to support the training and emergence of young information professionals in French-speaking Africa. This year, the scholarship was open to 25 countries in the region, and more than 330 applications were received.
Following a rigorous selection process, 20 winners were chosen, including 10 reporting technicians and 10 journalists. Among them, two young talents stood out and were named winners of this edition: Joseph Kahongo, Congolese journalist from Malaika radio and television, and Ange Joël Agbla, technician at Radio Univers in Benin.
Joseph Kahongo, aged 27, holds a degree in journalism from the University of Lubumbashi in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He was rewarded for his report on the consumption of “Gaddafi Cocktails”, a mixture of alcohol and drugs, and its consequences on health. The jury praised the progress and professional rigor of his work, as well as his sensitivity in the treatment of the subject.
The two winners will have the opportunity to benefit from fully supported training in Paris for 4 weeks, during the first quarter of 2024. This experience will allow them to deepen their skills and evolve in their career.
The “Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon” scholarship honors these two journalists from Radio France Internationale, tragically murdered ten years ago in Kidal, Mali. Their commitment and passion for journalism continues to inspire young professionals, who carry their legacy through their reporting and work in the field.
The next edition of the scholarship is already planned for 2024 and will be aimed, as usual, at French-speaking African countries. This valuable initiative demonstrates the importance of supporting and promoting young African talents in the field of information, and of perpetuating the legacy of Ghislaine Dupont and Claude Verlon.
