Economic reform in the Democratic Republic of Congo: towards a new dynamic to attract investments
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is keen to strengthen its attractiveness on the international business scene. It is with this in mind that the government examined and adopted a new roadmap focused on improving the business climate in the country. The Minister of State in charge of Planning, Judith Suminwa Tuluka, chaired the meeting of the Steering Committee which was held on November 2, 2023 in Kinshasa in collaboration with the National Investment Promotion Agency (ANAPI).
In her speech, Judith Suminwa Tuluka underlined the importance given by the Congolese government to improving the business climate in the DRC. She recalled that the President had called for accelerating the implementation of the emergency plan to improve the business climate in the country. This new roadmap therefore arises from these recommendations and aims to create an environment conducive to investments.
ANAPI, a key player in the field of business in the DRC, also played an essential role in the development of this roadmap. The Director General of ANAPI, Anthony Nkinzo, recalled the different stages taken to identify the reforms necessary to attract investments in the DRC. A thematic retreat was organized to take stock of the implementation of the reforms and formulate recommendations in relation to the grievances of the private sector. These recommendations were integrated into a roadmap including urgent measures, short-term reforms and medium- and long-term reforms.
Cooperation between the public and private sectors is essential in this process. Visions and actions must be harmonized to guarantee an improvement in the competitiveness of the Congolese economy. The needs and recommendations of the private sector must be taken into account so that government policies respond to the real needs of the economy.
Following this meeting, a consultation period was opened to collect suggestions and recommendations from stakeholders. Once evaluated and validated, the new roadmap will be submitted for examination by the Steering Committee, then at the institutional and political level before becoming operational.
This new dynamic of economic reform in the DRC aims to make the country a preferred destination for investments. By improving the business climate and promoting economic attractiveness, the DRC is positioning itself as a major player on the international scene. Concrete measures will be taken to facilitate administrative procedures, encourage private investment and create an environment conducive to the economic development of the country..
With this new roadmap, the DRC clearly demonstrates its desire to create the necessary conditions to attract investments and stimulate economic growth. The aim is to ensure lasting prosperity for the country and strengthen its position on the global economic stage.
