“Legislative elections in the DRC: the CENI publishes the final list of candidates, one more step towards democracy”

The legislative elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo are fast approaching, with an appointment scheduled for next December. With only a few weeks before this crucial event, the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) is actively preparing to guarantee the smooth running of these elections.

After publishing the provisional lists of provincial deputies, the CENI received no less than 710 requests to the administrative courts of appeal. After examination, 95 were deemed admissible and founded, 156 admissible but unfounded, and 459 were considered inadmissible.

In an official press release, the CENI announced that it had received the judgments of the Courts of Appeal concerning the appeals contesting the decision to publish the provisional lists of candidates. Following this, it took note of these judgments and published the final list of candidates for the election of provincial deputies, in its decision of October 31, 2023.

These final lists were published in the press and displayed at the CENI branches in each electoral constituency. In addition, they are also available on the CENI website (www.ceni.cd).

This key step in the preparation of the legislative elections in the DRC marks an important step forward towards the holding of these crucial elections. The CENI continues to work actively to ensure the transparency and credibility of these elections, which are essential for democracy and the development of the country.

As the country prepares to make its voice heard through the ballot box, attention is now turned to the electoral campaign and the political issues that will animate the coming weeks. Voters will be asked to make their choice among the candidates in the running, in the hope of choosing representatives who will know how to defend their interests and shape the future of the Congolese nation.

In a context where political stability and good governance are major concerns, the organization of fair and transparent elections is of paramount importance. All eyes are therefore on the DRC, awaiting these legislative elections which could mark a decisive turning point in the history of the country.
